How to block websites at certain times in Chrome

Updated 14 October 2026

The short answer

Chrome has no built-in schedule for blocking sites, so you need an extension. In Stillwood you can choose “Weekdays, 9:00–18:00”, “All the time”, “Only when I press Start focus”, or “My own days and hours”, which also handles windows that cross midnight, like 23:00–07:00.

Set a schedule in Stillwood

  1. Install Stillwood for Chrome.
  2. Pick the sites that distract you. If one isn’t on the list, type its address under Not on the list? Type a site.
  3. On the next screen, choose when you want protection. My own days and hours lets you pick the days and a start and end time.
  4. You can change the schedule any time in Stillwood’s settings.

Schedules you can copy

GoalScheduleMode for the site
Focus at work, free eveningsWeekdays, 9:00–18:00Pause & ask why
Study after workOwn days and hours: Mon–Thu, 19:00–22:00Pause & ask why
Protect your sleepOwn days and hours: every day, 23:00–07:00Closed
Deep work when you decideOnly when I press “Start focus”Closed

One schedule covers your whole list, and each site gets its own mode. Use “Pause & ask why” for sites you sometimes need and “Closed” for the ones you never do during those hours.

Start a block right now

Outside your schedule, click Stillwood on the toolbar and press Start focus. Protection stays on until you press End focus session, which is handy for a sudden deadline or an evening you want to keep clear.

Other ways to schedule a block

LeechBlock NG is another free extension. It supports up to 30 block sets, each with its own times and days, and limits like 10 minutes in every hour. It suits people who want a separate rule for every group of sites and don’t mind a longer setup.

The hosts file can’t follow a schedule. It blocks a site until you edit the file again.

Questions

Can I block a site only at night?

Yes. Set your own hours, for example 23:00–07:00. The part after midnight counts as the previous evening’s schedule, so the block runs through the night the way you’d expect.

Can different sites have different schedules?

In Stillwood one schedule covers your list, and each site can be set to “Pause & ask why” or “Closed”. If you need a separate schedule for each group of sites, LeechBlock NG supports that.

Does the schedule follow my time zone?

Yes. It uses the clock on your computer, so when you travel and your computer changes time zone, the schedule moves with it.
