The short version

Stillwood is a browser extension that pauses distracting websites. Everything it knows about you stays on your own computer. We don’t collect, receive, sell or share your data. There’s no account, no analytics and no ads.

What the extension stores, and where

Stillwood saves the following in your browser’s local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device:

  • the sites you add to your list, and whether each one pauses or stays closed;
  • your schedule, pause length and language settings;
  • daily focus numbers: focused minutes, rings, how often you tried to open a site on your list, and what you decided;
  • the reasons you pick on the pause screen and any words you type there, and the daily priority you write down.

This data is never sent to us or to anyone else. Daily records older than 120 days are deleted automatically. You can erase everything at any time in Stillwood’s settings, and removing the extension removes all of its data.

Why the extension asks for each permission

  • Access to the sites on your list. Stillwood asks your permission for each site at the moment you add it, and has access to youtube.com from the start. It uses this access only to tell whether a tab is on your list, so it can show the pause screen, count focused minutes and notice when a listed site cuts in. On youtube.com it also hides the home feed, recommendations and Shorts while protection is on. It has no access to any other site, doesn’t read, collect or store the content of the pages you visit, and keeps no browsing history.
  • Blocking content (declarativeNetRequest). Sends the sites on your list to Stillwood’s pause screen instead of loading them.
  • Storage. Keeps your settings and focus numbers on your device, as described above.
  • Alarms. Runs the timers: the minute counter for rings, short breaks, and the 10 minutes you can give yourself on a site.
  • Idle. Tells whether you’re at your computer, so minutes when you’re away aren’t counted as focus.

Chrome Web Store user data policy

The use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Stillwood’s single purpose is to help you stay focused by pausing distracting websites, and data is used only for that purpose, only on your device.
