How to block TikTok on your computer

The short answer
On a computer, add tiktok.com to a website blocker extension such as Stillwood, or block it in your hosts file. TikTok’s own Daily screen time setting is in the phone app, under Settings and privacy, then Screen time.
Why the web version is easy to fall into
On a computer, TikTok sits one tab away from your work. A video starts playing as soon as the page loads and the next one is already waiting below it. A few seconds of pause before the page opens is often enough to notice what your hand was about to do.
Method 1: pause TikTok with Stillwood
- Install Stillwood for Chrome and pick TikTok on the first screen.
- Choose when to be protected: weekdays 9:00–18:00, all the time, only when you press “Start focus”, or your own days and hours.
- When you open TikTok, Stillwood pauses and asks what’s pulling you there. Each answer gets its own small way back. If you’re tired, for example, it suggests 5 minutes away from the screen and counts them as focus.
- If you keep coming back within an hour, the pause gets longer on its own. To shut TikTok completely during focus time, switch it to “Closed” in settings.
Method 2: block it in the hosts file
Add these lines to your hosts file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts on Windows, /etc/hosts on Mac) and restart the browser:
127.0.0.1 tiktok.com127.0.0.1 www.tiktok.com
This blocks TikTok in every browser on the computer. There’s no schedule, and to undo it you have to edit the file again.
Method 3: set a daily limit in the app
On your phone, open TikTok, tap Profile, then the menu button at the top, then Settings and privacy → Screen time → Daily screen time. You can set one limit for every day or a different one for each day. It covers the app on that phone only.
Questions
Can I block TikTok on my computer and keep it on my phone?
Yes. A Chrome extension only works in that browser on that computer. The TikTok app on your phone isn’t affected.
Can I let myself watch for a few minutes?
Yes. In “Pause & ask why” mode you can open TikTok for 10 minutes, and Stillwood brings you back when the time is up.
Does the block work in Incognito?
Only if you allow it. In chrome://extensions, open Stillwood’s details and turn on “Allow in Incognito”.
